Bill of Rights to Stop Drilling/Fracking Needs Your Support

Monday, April 30, 2012 at 7:30 pm at City Council Chambers at City Hall

Join us for a City Council work session on a Bill of Rights for Broadview Heights residents to ban further drilling in our community. This Bill of Rights states that as citizens of Broadview Heights, we are entitled to clean air and water and a safe environment. We also have the right to self governance of our city.

Councilor Doug Shields, who led Pittsburgh City Council to pass the country’s first CELDF (Community Environmental Legal Defense Fund)-style rights-based ban on fracking will be discussing his experiences and offer some guidance to help our elected officials pass a Bill of Rights in Broadview Heights. Since Pittsburgh City Council passed their Bill of Rights in 2010, no more wells have been drilled in the city of Pittsburgh and to date, it has not been challenged in court.

See an article about Councilor Doug Shields’ ban on fracking in Pittsburgh.

This ordinance now rests in Council’s hands and they are trying to decide if they should vote for it or against it.

Attend this meeting to support the passage of our Bill of Rights. We have 86 wells in our community.
